 Many police officers are killed every year by motorists who lose control of

their vehicles and run a police officer over or run into a police cruiser...
=============================
On that note, a new Kansas law (not yet in force) states that vehicle
traffic MUST move over (away) one lane when an authorized emergency vehicle
(police, fire truck, ambulance, Slick Willy's caravan) is stopped on the
side of the highway. No misdemeanor charges (yet) but hefty fines and
points against your license.

Mmmm, what a PITA for me but a nice gesture. Except, what it there's enough
traffic next to me that I can not pull over?? Am I to come to a complete
standstill in freeway traffic just to avoid being in that lane adjacent to
the officer? What about those dummy officers (hopefully the minority) who
choose to pull people over just past the crest of a hill or around a
corner?? Would these be defensable conditions in court? Likely not if it
boils down to his word against mine. Not a well thought out law if you ask
me but a decent start.
