I'm staying at the Plaza this year. Last year, John McKiver's mother stayed
there, and we were using her room as a shower point (we were living in the
moterhome). The room was clean (if a little basic) and there's a clean outdoor
pool and laundry facilities. After tax, it was $50 a night, and it's pretty
close to the event site.
The Previous year, we stayed in the Airport Value Inn, which has the reputation
as the worst hotel in Topeka. There's a reason for that. The room had received
only a cursory cleaning, the A/C could probably drown out Marcus M.'s snoring,
and the pool looked like it was preparing to evolve and walk upright.
I'm not very picky (if it has flush toilets and the roof doesn't leak, I'm
happy) but my wife let it be known in no uncertain terms that we would NOT be
staying there again.
It was cheap though.
