I've been racing an ES 1998 ZX2 since the summer of '97 with the only mod
being a K&N filter, and used R1s.
I can tell you in stock class with 130hp it is not that competitive a car.
Insert driver jokes and comments here MidDiv people! hehehe.
Their are CRXs and Saturns coupes in ES you know :)
With the addition of the new Civic Si coupe in ES (160hp and retuned
suspension including wheels) I think it would not be outside the realm of
possibility to keep a ZX2 S/R in ES with it's 143hp. FYI: Most of the HP
increase comes from the less restrictive Roush intake piping and air filter
setup.

Now about the coil over suspension, camber kit, race bushings, and
reprogrammed Electronic Control Unit I think it would be a different story.
These parts are not in the S/R option group(available nationwide soon Ford
Motorsports tells me.)
I would personally not complain if these parts put the car straight into CSP
this year and DSP next year as the current reclassing proposal says. Coil
overs alone would be a great help to the handling on my car! Let alone an
ECU programmed for 92 octane fuel only! hehehe *****/
Also I am hoping / wondering if the new Civic Si will be reclassed any time
soon to DS. I have seen at least 3 running here in MidDiv and they(and
their drivers of course) are very, very quick.
I thought initially that the low torque (111 lb/ft) and high rpm power curve
would hinder these cars in autocrossing, but they must be geared right
because they are doing quite well. Example if I may Dan: Dan Gamble drove
his to 4th of 8 in the first MidDiv Regional Solotime in Oklahoma. He was
0.342 away from 3rd with a 6cyl. MX6, a CRX, and Saturn SC2 in 3rd, 2nd, and
1st respectively.
All IMHO of course.
