I can't seem to post to Team.Net for some reason, but you are absolutely
correct. The inner liner gets a tear and then acts like a flapper valve -
the greater the pressure against it, the tighter it seals.

Generally what happens is the inside of the hose collapses. Not a hose
engineer,
but as I understand it the hoses are two or three pc. construction.
