A closed car only requires a SCCA approved bar, not a cage (but I personally
prefer a cage for driving on race tracks) and a fire extinguisher. Driver
safety equip is the same as racing, full suit (single layer with Nomex
underware or multi layer), current helmet ( I believe a step above Solo2,
don't have my GCR handy), shoes, gloves, 5 point harness. Many
BMW/Porsche/Etc type events do not have these requirements or have varying
requirements depending on the class they put you in. Some require nothing
more than a seat belt and helmet. But again, I personally would not go out
on a race course with other cars (many with unknown levels of high speed
driving experience) without at least a roll bar.
