The IROC principal was that all cars were created equal, and the drivers
rotated cars.
That is a great idea but who would transport the cars and maintain them ?
We here in
Southwest Fl. have spec racer classes. We have a 1977 Pinto 2.3 and a
5.0 Capri.
Each car has 7 drivers this season once the car arrives for the event no
one is permitted
to make any adjustments. Men and Women compete equally in the cars, it is
all up to
driver ability. The Pinto class has been the most entertaining and
provided the closes
finishes since its inception. The seasons point winner in the Pinto must
move into the
Capri the next season. And what becomes of the Capri season winner? We
are now
working on a spec formula racer ( old f440 chassis with Honda power). As
for ware &
tear the Pinto is in its 3rd season and Capri in season 2 we go thru a
set of tires( street
tires nothing fancy) and 3-4 oil changes a season. Cars are getting 28
runs an event
10 events a season. Oh yea each driver pays $10.00 an event rental to
help offset upkeep
cost.
