IMHO, I don't think you can go faster for $1000 than in a 1st gen Honda
CRX/Civic. Add 27mm front torsen bars, a rear swaybar, Illumina's and 13"
wheels and you're producing legitimate CSP times. The Civic actually holds a
lot of stuff too. For added fun bolt-in an Integra motor (STU)

<< Hello everyone, I recently moved up North (Maryland from Georgia), and I
am
wanting to buy a project/autocross car. It needs to be cheap (around $1000),
and parts should be readily available and cheap. I also plan to use this as
a
backup car so it needs to be in reasonable shape and remain street legal (for
the time being). I want it for tinkering/upgrading. I was wondering what
everyone thought would be a good choice. I was thinking of maybe a VW GTi
('83
or '84), 1st gen RX-7, or maybe a Porsche 914 or something. I would like
to
set up the car to be in Solo II, Solo I, with the occasional road race, track
day, or maybe even a hillclimb. I currently drive an AWD 323 GTX so I might
lean more towards RWD for a weekend racer, but at the same time, I really
like
the GTi for parts availability and reliability. I've already read some of
the
interesting articles in Grassroots, I just wanted some real world insights.
