First, all this beating yourself up about being a newbie and dumb questions
are unnecessary. It HAS to happen for you to evolve.
Second, yes, it will stir a controversy.
Personally, I think you would fork out less dough on some type of VW. Rabbit,
golf, scirocco, or jetta--doesn't matter.
Parts are cheap enough, and you can be right in the thick of things with no or
a few alterations.
