Hey all,
I wanted to make just a couple of observations about my experiences in my
second NT and with my first co-driver, Joe Goeke.
First of all, the event was wonderful! Everything from the registration to
the saturday night party was great. Great courses, pretty good weather and
great hosts...I shall surely make the 9 hour drive next year as well.
Second, I will have to say that co-driving with Joe was certainly not what I
expected it to be. I was expecting him (I know it's a stereotype, but I had
no clue what to expect) to be rather secretive with what was happening in the
car while he was on course. Well, as soon as we found each other, Joe came
running up and immediately helped me change tires. Ok, this was nice =^) .
Then he was open about talking to me about what he saw in the course while
walkiing it...By this time I had admitted that I may have been wrong in my
assumption.
On saturday, he provided valuable input so we could get the car working in the
rain. He continued to help even though I was leading him by a few tenths
(except later I found out that I had a cone on that run, but at this time we
did not know this). By the sunday (dry, thank goodness) runs came around, he
continued to encourage me even though I was rather disenhartened because of a
mystery cone from saturday.
All in all, I must say that what I saw from Joe all weekend was nothing but
what Solo2 is all about: sportsmanship. I am very proud of his win and to
say that I finished behind him becuase he could stay clean when I couldn't ;^)
. I just hope that we have the opportunity to drive together again later in
the season! Maybe at that time I can get rid of those damn orange thingies...
=^)
