A couple of things that I forgot to add in my previous email:
Be sure to go with a distributor cap specifically designed for a hot
electronic ignition if you go with the hotter Pertronix coil. If you
don't, you may find out just about what it feels like in an electric
chair....ZZZZAAAAP!!! I got three or four extreme wake up call shocks
when I touched my now ex-stock distributor cap and the plug wires near
it. Man, that hurts!! I finally found out that the new coil's high
voltage overcame the ability of a stock cap to contain it and the
voltage was seriously leaking out and following down the plug wires. You
could actually see it happening under the hood in a dark garage. When I
installed a new cap for a high voltage ignition, the problem went away.
It took a while before I felt comfortable touching the cap and wires
again while the car is running, but with the new cap, it became
completely painless again.
It was worth the trouble to do the changeover, as the car starts better,
runs smoother, and accelerates noticeably better with the Pertronix.
