I suspect that part of your problem is the float level is too low, causing fuel starvation. They are a bugger to get right on the Alpine, because of the canted angle of the carbs. Fortunately, you can actually get to them to measure and adjust, in-situ, by removing the filters and float bowls. You do, however, need to be a bit of a contortionist.
