Hello Alpine group:
First, I would like to thank this group for helping me
partially solve my "dead" Series 5 issue earlier this
summer.
Indeed it was apparently a bad ammeter that was
causing my entire car to go dead. I bypassed the bad
ammeter and the car started.
While troubleshooting all the electrical prior to
realizing the ammeter problem, I replaced the starter
solenoid, first thinking that was the problem.
Here's my problem now:
The car started fine after bypassing the ammeter, and
I drove it around the block, but it started even when
I turn the ignition key BACKWARDS towards the
accessory mode. The ignition switch and key is
original and falls out even when the car is on.
Then I tried to start the car again and it would not
start unless I manually bridged the starter solenoid
with a screwdriver.
So I took out the new solenoid I just installed and
put back my original solenoid, and it started again,
but still with the key working in either direction to
start the car.
I am wondering whether I burned out the new starter
solenoid, so as to not risk burning out my original
also, I have come to this list for some advice.
Do you think I have a bad ignition switch that burned
out the new solenoid??? Could my neighbor friend or I
have inadvertently switched some wiring somewhere?
Any advice would be appreciated as always.
Thank you in advance.
