Back firing is caused by 1) timing 2) fueling Shorting out is another situation. Always go for the worse first, you're your problems will go away. Remember people these are NOT jets they are a simple little 4 cylinder engine. Your basic high schooler in the 70's could figure this one out. I am going to be harsh here.
