Ron,
        I don't think you need any books. I laced my motorcycle wheels with new
spoke kits all the time. What you want to do it at home, get an old rear
axle & wire wheel hub and somehow mount it in a bench vise so that you
can spin the rim on the axle. Then take some measurements on where the
rim is referenced to the wheel hub. Also, make a diagram of which spoke
hole in the wheel hub goes to the hole in the rim. You want to
reassemble the wheel just like it was assembled. So if you draw where &
which direction the spokes go, you will have a diagram later on how it
goes back together. Those notes really saved a lot of time reassembling
the wheel. Then you need to adjust the spokes so that the rim has the
original "off-set" or dish as they call it. Then put a dial indicator of
some sort to be able to adjust the run-out. Some spokes need to be
installed in the hub, before installing the rim. That in a nutshell is
how I do it.
