Jay,
I had a problem sealing the exhaust manifold on my SV, the cast
manifold, it was not really good and flat. I took it to the machine shop
and had it surfaced on this big water cooled belt sander machine both at
the head side and the down pipe. Cured my problem. Another thing I did
with the cast manifold was replace the two end bolts with studs. The
studs that hold the valve cover on are just right for this. One thing to
look at on a steel manifold is the thickness of the flange, if it does
not have enough meat in it it could be distorting when it heats up or
with the tightening of the bolts, just a thought. I used the copper
stuff on the down pipe connection and it lasted for a while, but not
