1. Loss of cooling fluid. If all other evidence is no leakage, then your head 
gasket is suspect. Fluid from the cooling jackets, into the combustion 
chamber, then out the exaust.

2. I would place it on the inner wing, to the outside of the ignition coil. 
The supply tubing is then close enough. I take it that you are proposing the 
electric pump as a 'Disaster Recovery' option, in the event that the 
mechanical bugger gives up the ghost. If so, why not just carry a spare mech. 
unit in the boot (trunk).
