I've been wondering about an early Series 5 that a
guy had who worked with me in the early 70's. He
had serial number B395000034. It was an ST and
was the Holly Green color (pretty sure). This car
had a non-synchro first gear. One night we were
going out to a bar and when I got sick of the way it
idled I had him open the hood (bonnet) so I could
improve it (partially successful). It had a single
carburetor. Just doesn't seem like it was a
replacement. Is it at all possible that this was
factory equipment?

I know the serial number because I found an old file
folder with notes from back then when I went on a
parts mission to a junk yard with numerous Alpines,
then to a dealer to order parts. (3 of us had Alpines)
One car had a hardtop and overdrive, another had wires.
Not on my list! Boy if I could do that over again.
