This is important. I did the exact same thing a few weeks ago and a trip to
a local mechanic found that I had the wires 180 degrees out. Fired right up
after that.

To get the engine timed with #1 cylinder firing, you need to remove the
valve cover and watch the valve movement. The rotor turns
counterclockwise and firing order is 1-3-4-2. The points are set to
0.016".
