According to Michael Sedgwick, William Jowett produced flat twins between
1913 and 1953. The flat 4 was introduced 1936, and it seems likely to have
been developed from the twin. Flat 4 in the Javelin had a capacity of
1486cc, but I don't have bore and stroke.
