Lou,
Sunbeam Alpine Owners Club of UK published a sheet on removing & 
installing the gearbox with the motor in the car. I used this when I did 
my clutch. Very useful document.
And yes, it is a tight squeeze with the longer OD gearbox.

Unfortunately I'm in the US and my notes are in Australia. Can someone 
else on the list help Lou with a copy of the sheet?
