Alpinists and Hillmanites
Having traced a water leak to a corrosion hole in the bottom of number 1
cylinder of my series 3 Alpine, I took my block to an engine rebuilder
who removed the sleeves fitted some years ago. The original bores look
to be a disaster; 3 of them have corrosion holes of about 1.5 inches in
diameter, the 4th has a crack running 80% of the cylinder length. The
rebuilder is hesitant about resleeving again and I can understand why.
Does anyone have experience with repairs on such a problem? I would
really like to keep the block as it is original, but there seems no
point if it is just going to fail straight away.
Also does anyone out there in Australia (I am in Canberra) have a sound
1600 motor that they would be willing to part with? Any condition
considered as long as it doesn't have rusty bores. I think I am going
to need one.
Thanks
Vic Hughes
