I had the same exact problem with my SII. It turned out to be the rebuild
kit's low quality. The main rubber plunger located at the end of the spring
was not of sufficient resiliency. I replaced with a good Lockheed rebuild
kit and it worked fine. I know its hard to believe, but it worked. Also, I
liberally used the "red grease" that they sent with it and I have had no
troubles. Of course, the remainder of the MC was in good condition, no
scoring, the wave washer intact, etc.
