Has anyone tried to fit a late Alpine/Jensen Healey 4speed and OD into an
Alpine? I have my SV OD and now have a NOS late Alpine/Jensen Healey OD
tranny - except without the OD unit or the spacer between the tranny and
OD.

I'm either going to swap my SV OD mainshaft into the late Alpine/JH box
(and input shaft), or try to put my OD unit on the back of the late
Alpine/JH box. The late Alpine/JH box output shaft is 1/2 longer - before
the OD pump cam. So I'm assuming the OD unit was the same (with a
different output) and the difference was the spacer between the two -
causing them to stretch the shaft 1/2.

I know that when installing the standard OD into my Alpine, the end of the
tranny just barely clears the crossmember as it goes up. If it was 1/2"
longer, I'd have to push the rear end of the tranny up into the cross
member and then slide the whole thing forward. If my recollection is
right, it might be impossible to push it back far enough to get enough room
to clear the clutch.

Anyone have any thoughts? I'm really just trying to avoid having to swap
the mainshafts. However, this is also conditioned on being able to find
the late Alpine/JH spacer - and for a price worth it (any thoughts on that
too?)

Oh, one final question. I'd also prefer not to have to put a used first
motion shaft into the box, and still use the JH one. Rick said perhaps the
front of the JH first motion shaft can be machined. I measured the two.
The input for the pilot bearing would have to be machined back. That may
be possible. But, the splines would have to be lengthened too. I suspect
this would be impossible and both would be way too expensive to make it
worthwhile.
