Marc,

We could go into thousands of various failures on vehicles... my personal
favorite was spontaneous exploding VW Rabbits because the fuel tank was
directly above the catalytic converter... but VW was lucky as that came out
just after the Pinto exploding gas tanks hit the press so most of the public
ignored it. We could go into many, many failures but the key point is that it
is no accident that Lucas is called "The Prince of Darkness".

However, Lucas has shown consistant problems over the years. Their switches,
relays, generators, starters and regulators all fail long before anybody elses
(except perhaps Marelli). The Australian Hillman owners club recently had an
article in "Hillmanews" explaining what was essentially wrong with the Lucas
starter.

By the way, why do you think that there are no longer any British car
manufacturers??? I can buy a new VW, BMW, Porsche, MB etc. I can also buy a
new Fiat, Peugeot, Renault. But I can't buy a new truely British car... even
RR is foreign owned. What killed the British cars?? My vote is Joseph Lucas,
what is yours???

Jan

Hey, Jan -- did you ever look at the "exploding fuse blocks" used on VW
Beetles into the 1960's? These were famous for falling apart in rush-hour
traffic and setting your trunk contents a-flame.
