If he nailed you with a laser speed gun, you're screwed. However, if
he was using a traditional radar gun you can request that he (the
trooper) present a calibration certificate for the unit he was using.
If the date of the certificate is not the date of your cite, then you
have grounds to request dismissal, as these units are to be calibrated
be fore each use with a tuning fork. At the very least, request a
reduction. It's your word against his, but if your cruise was set at
70 and you have awitness to verify that, then it may be enough to cause
the judge to reduce the fine. Be truthful and respectful at all times.
Do not call the trooper a liar, but you can certainly assert that he
made a mistake. Also, Indiana may not be what's called a "reciprocal"
state, though the probably are, most are. This means that your priors,
if not in Indiana, may not show up in their records. Who knows, you
may get lucky and the cop won't even show for court, in which case you
should get a dismissal based in the fact you live out of state and
cannot return.
