Installed one in my '59 Minx and it really made an improvement! Trick was to
use a timing light with a "timing dial"-also set timing using a tach and vacuum
gauge on the vacuum line (and a manual of course). You can play with the
vacuum advance and the centrifcal advance- for example-if you want MORE vacuum
advance, set the vernier to the first mark and then set the timing by
positioning the distributor-this will give you maximum vacuum advance under
high vacuum, if you want less vacuum advance and more mechanical advance-set
the vernier to additional marks. At the "long mark" (the third mark) you are
at factory settings. You can thus somewhat tailor the timing to your engine.
I found the Minx was happy with the LEAST vacuum advance and teh max mechanical
advance.
