I am passing along a technical question about piston weight differences from
a friend who races vintage motorcycles ( he is the 1996 class champ -500
Vintage- in Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Assn).
He has weighed some cb160 (old honda motorcycle) pistons just bought (new)
and they are 6 grams off. That is a lot in a 10,000 rpm road racing bike.
The machine shop is convinced that the pistons are so small that nothing can
be removed from them without ruining them.
What to do? Buy more and hope to find two with nearly the same weight?
Could
they remove the weight from the inside of one of the pins? The pins are
really hard though - a drill bit would never make it through that hole.
