Carl,
I used to buy directly from a Warehouse Distributor for Isky, and I spent
many hours on the phone with their tech-guys. That number HH2, does not
agree with the Isky catalog numbers: they had an SB-2 that was a torquer good
to about 5800 and no higher, when degreed at zero, on a well built engine.
It built much more torque than stock.
Their next grind was their SB-3, which is a wonderful street/autocross
cam: using it, my engine regularly saw 7500 rpm for short durations, but it
really ran out around of poop at 7200.
Their SB-4 was their full-race version and I never tried it, as I needed
streetability. I have the specs for the three grinds if you want them. In
my opinion, Isky grinds are very conservative.
As I have mentioned on-list several times before, Jerry Bodwell at Delta
Camshaft, Tacoma, WA. has at least 30 different tried and tested grinds for
SCCA Sunbeam Alpine. He bought out Pacific Cam Grinders many years ago and
this is a combined collection of patterns. These were proven grinds
developed by Jann Helzer and Arnie Loyning (who still has an engine building
shop in Portland, Ore.) from their racing successes in the 1960's. Jann and
Arnie literally collected a garage full of trophys with their cars. Jerry at
Delta gave Pacific Tiger Club a real show-and-tell for one of our Club
meetings a few years back, and he can be reached at 1-800-562-5500.
