Doug---That was a good description on what you found and did. Seeing the photos reminded me that I also used an LPS product for cleaning electricals (ECC) This slightly oily formula helped the shaft to rotate without twisting the body of the switch. I also recall "doing something" to expose more of the (rounded) nylon key. In any case, it looks like you're on the right track, here.
