Hi Michael, I'm not the one with the leak (well, that that leak anyway..) but
by coincidence I do plan to convert to electric this winter and I have the
blanking plate etc ready to go.

What about replacing your mechanical pump with an electrical one? I did that
with my '76. It cost the same with installation, is unlikely to leak in the
future, and seems to work great. There is a blanking plate that blocks off
the place that the mechanical pump used to go. The electric pump is attached
to the frame.
