Joe, in jest, the obvious question is "what kind of serious accident did you
have in mind?"
Seriously, in my experience of having seen many totalled TR's (in their very
young days) they don't
hold up well. Truth is, they weren't really designed to be as *energy
absorbing* as a modern car.
There's no significant front or rear crumple zone, there's no SIPS (side impact
protection system)
and all you do have is a telescoping steering column. IMHO, if you daily drive
the TR in traffic
conditions where you feel a bump is an inevitable likelihood just waiting to
happen, the sooner you
get and use something in which you feel safer and better protected, the better!
