Is what you're saying that you must start the car in first with the clutch
pressed in? Once started and running, if you pull up to a light and shift
into neutral, does the same thing happen - can't get back in first gear?
If so, check crankshaft end float right away. If the thrust washers have
worn and dropped into the pan, then the clutch may not disengage because the
flywheel moves around so much. End float should be .006 or so. If the
thrust washers are gone, it will be way over that, .100 or above.
