Autocar, in 1969 (price as tested GBP 1474, 12 shillings and ninepence) said
this about the brakes:
Despite servo assistance, the brakes are heavy too [this was after a clutch
description], calling for over 100lbs of effort for an emergency stop. Mostly
though they react with a reassuring bite, pulling the speed down very rapidly
when required. Without any wheel locking or slewing we achieved over 1g,
thanks largely to the Michelin XAS radial tyres which are standard. When
tested for fade at 70mph, the brakes remained remarkably stable with a slight
change in their speed sensitivity warning the driver that they were getting
hot. The handbrake could not hold the car on a 1 in 3, and it took a mighty
heave to secure it on a 1 in 4. Restarting was managed only by carefully
slipping the clutch to the top of the rise.
