Jim---If I understand your post correctly, this is one way to adjust the
chokes:
1) Push the choke wire down into the wire opening far enough so that
when you pull the CHOKE knob out, it pulls the cam up to its highest
ramp. Attach the clip and lock the wire. Do the same for both carbs.
2) When the CHOKE knob is all the way in, the cam should not be
contacting any part of the "fast idle stop" screw. Set the clearance
between the cam and fast idle stop at .032. The exact clearance here is
not critical, but should be the same for both carburetor chokes. This
way both carbs see the same amount of choke and fast idle.
3) Now when you pull out the CHOKE knob to the max, the cam that
operates the fast idle linkage should give the most choke, and the
fastest engine idling speed.
Did I muddy this up enough?

I have replaced my choke cable and not matter how hard I try, I can not
comprehend what the Haynes and Bentley manuals are telling me regarding
the correct position and setting for the idle stop and so on. I
understand that a spacer is required but the text/illustrations are not
clear (to me).
Is there a simple process to follow that does not warrant major
adjusting/synchronizing? Much appreciated. Jim
