By the VIN number.  ALL TR 3B's VIN numbers either  begin with TSF or TCF.  
TSF being the first 500 or so and TCF being the  last 2800 or so.  If the VIN 
starts with anything else it is  NOT a true "B" although one can easily turn a 
TR 3A into a B by  making the few modifications such as the engine size and 
transmission.   Otherwise the bodies, etc., are virtually identical.
