Mike,

Another thought would be to substitute the standard (oversize) Triumph pistons
with those from an E series Mazda (standard bore size).  These will most
certainly be chepaer than the Triumph ones and will take the engine out to
around 2.7 litre, which I think is around .60 thou over.  This is a common
"conversion" here in Australia but does require a special (oversize) head
gasket.  I've gone this way with mine and had my machinist offset bore the
cylinders to allow for a little extra meat between them.  I've also decked the
block by about .20 thou (I think) to ensure correct piston hight and have full
floating gudgeons with teflon plugs.  All this was relatively cheap and has
provided a very reliable (and quick) TR.  All the best.
