Where was the factory location? I know the lighter was offered
as an option, so they
had to have a location for it. My guess is to the left or right of the
courtesy light
switch. There are some predrilled holes in the dash support, which are
covered
by the padding. Did the dealer punch a hole in the padding and then
insert the lighter?
They may have tapped into the accessory power lead provided for the
radio...?

My 74 is black crinikle paint (original).
I have modified it by installing a lighter socket inside the ashtray
(plenty
of room under dash for fit). This is not for cigerettes however, as I
don't
smoke. It is used for my recharger for my cell phone. When not in use,
I
close the lid and it looks original.
