        Rick:

Thinking about it, I would say you have burned up one half of
your sliding clutch member. If it were the unidirectional clutch you
would have no forward motion at all. As it is, the unidirectional clutch
is now carrying all your output power whenever the OD is engaged. The
roller clutch is only intended to prevent slippage as the OD is engaged,
and the rest of the time the sliding clutch member transmits all the
power. If the sliding clutch is toast, then the roller clutch is
carrying all of the power all of the time (except in reverse). With that
much power, it will not be long before it breaks too.
Get a relined clutch from Quantum, and get that puppy fixed now,
otherwise some very expensive bits are going to detonate. Also, make
sure that you got both filter screens cleaned out. Most people only
clean the one screen, because they don't realize there are two.

Hello All,

<snip>

The symptoms: although it sounds like it shifts, there is virtually no
difference in engine speed. Also when slowing down it will almost lock
up
for an instant. Then it also stutters even when not engaged at 55 to 60
mph
with a bad vibration. The transmission is filled with SAE 30
nondetergent
oil that has changed to black, a color the same as the clutch lining
within
the overdrive.

Any hints? The one way roller clutch? The planetary gear set? And can I
continue to drive it as long as it isn't run in overdrive? I have
changed
the oil, cleaned the filter screen, and swapped out the solenoid.

thanks so much

Rick Patton
