I guess it is time for summer vacation and car maintenance.
My son called from school, said his 73 TR6 was running rough
like the choke was stuck on. The chokes visually look OK
and operate normally. Visually, the manifold and vacum
lines also look OK. He said there was some purple looking
oil dripping off one of the carbs - no great description and
he didn't look under the damper plugs. Oil pressure and
water temps are normal. He thought it might be running
richer than normal. It is drivable the 60 miles to get home
on Monday.
We will start with the carbs - dampers, pull the air
cleaners, check for vacum leaks. I'm thinking a diaphram
problem on one of the carbs.
Will probably go to plugs, distributor, and timing next. It
has a petronix unit - no trouble for 18 months.
We'll then look at compression, valve lash and springs.
Any more ideas from similar symptoms?
Thanks,
Jim Farris
