Breakage is a very real possibility. I rebuilt my rear hubs,
using a
borrowed press. Totally destroyed one trying to get it apart, even after
heating, PB blaster, etc.
The tip of the axle mushroomed, and the mounting flange looked
like
a potato chip it was so badly bent. When they do come apart, they
come apart with quite a bang, because of all the stored energy as the
steel compresses like a spring in the press. To make sure you don't
destroy them requires special tooling to support the various bits while
you put 15+ tons on them to pop them apart. Most gear pullers will break
at 10+ tons, so only the lucky few will get them apart with a puller.
$120 seems reasonable to do the work for you, and ship them
back.

Mitch,
I called around local shops and no one wanted to touch them in case they
broke on the shop press. I ended up shipping them to TRF and their
C.A.R. Dept.
cleaned them up by blasting, separated them to replace the $5 oil seal
and
reassembled. They even painted them gloss black. I believe cost was
about
$120-$140 for the whole deal about 2yrs ago.
I should have coated them with a clear coat as they are beginning to
spot
rust now. But over all I have been very pleased with TRF's C.A.R. Dept
work on
my stub axle.
