Bob,
I agree with you, the stock design is horrible... but Vance's original
post said that he wanted to keep the stock look and the muffler I
suggested does do that..plus probably offering slightly better flow.
This design was used for their v-8 as well.
I installed the Falcon sport exhaust, it's about as open as you can
get and still have mufflers.
