Jerry----If it's the "red" light (not the "orange" oil light) gets
dimmer when you rev the engine, the problem is most likely in the
alternator. If this dash light gets brighter, as you claim, then the
problem is in the battery. I know I read this somewhere. (Probably in
Dan Master's handbook).

I have a 1971 TR6 that the ignition idiot light stays on all the time. I
thought that the problem might be the ammeter (that was not working), so
I replaced it. The ammeter works great, but the light stays on all the
time!
It is dimmer at idle and gets brighter as the rev's get higher. Any
suggestions?
