A higher pressure cap should, in theory, permit better heat exchange. This is because (as you noted) the boiling point is raised, meaning heat is being exchanged between the solid coolant passage to the liquid coolant phase. This is a more efficient heat exhange process than from a solid to gaseous (boiling) phase. Although you may not notice a "boilover" with the 7 psi cap, that does not mean you don't have localized boiling on portions of the coolant passages that are hampering heat exchange. Rick O. 72 TR6 |
