I like to use the spring compressor because you can get the spring pan
lined up easier for when you install the bolts to hold it to the a-arms.
Without the compressor, this job can be a PITA to get everything lined up!
With the compressor in place, if the pan shifts around before you get the
bolts in, you can re-center things with a rubber mallet.
Bob's 1,000% right. I did not know this until after doing it a time or two
with a homemade compressor. The compressor is worth the money to have those
holes line up. I actually managed to do it one time and have all, but one
bolt line up. My language at that time, after I got over the shock, was
colorful to say the least, since I basically had to tear it down again.
