That is correct, it is too high.

If the tire is of the same load rating then use the factory
recommendations.  And not just the letter...A, B, C etc ... the
actual lbs ...  it varies buy tire size.

Note that the 44 PSI is to achieve max rated wieght, which is
probably 1500-1700 lbs.  The TR is only half that .....

Here's an example inflation chart for comparison sakes.  This
is for ST205 trailer tires with a max 50 PSI:
(they can get pretty low ands still carry a lot of weight.)
