Snaps

Gang:

I just repainted my car and am getting ready to re-install the toneau snaps 
along the top of the doors.  The installation itself seems pretty 
straightforward; I've never had any trouble with pop rivets.  What I'm 
worried about is chipping the paint from the pressure of the snap when I'm 
riveting.  Anyone ever do this?  Please tell me I have nothing to worry 
about (or you have a sure fire technique for avoiding any damage)....
