Differential Pinion depth Measurement??

 I hope someone can help me out here. I've got a measurement from an article
for the pinion depth measured from the center of the carrier bearing, but want
to double check this with someone that might know for sure. The Bentley Manual
only gives info for use of the Churchill tool, surely this info is around
somewhere.
  I've got $12 in a case spreader and pinion bearing race remover. The tools
are easy to make if you've got a Mig Welder. Just need to alter the bearing
puller for the carrier and pinion bearings as the one used puts stress on the
bearing cage.
  Oh yea, it's a stock 3.7:1 ratio, if that matters.
