Well, today marks a major milestone!
I have been working on a frame-off restoration of my TR6 for about 14
months. It has been very frustrating at times, but also it has been very
rewarding. The frame has been reinforced and every weld has been revised.
All the components have been refurbished and a new engine installed. Rear
suspension has received a major overhaul and basically, the frame is ready.
Now on to the good news: I sanded the entire body down to bare metal.
Using the body shop of a friend of mine, I have applied filler where needed
in order to achieve a smooth surface on all body parts. I was lucky that my
car was in excellent shape being stored for over 12 years by its previous
owner in a covered garage.
Well, once I had the body straight I applied three coats of sanding primer
to all body parts, and have done all the sanding myself. It is amazing!!
Plenty of worn down fingertips!! Today, the body shell was painted! I have
spent a small fortune in a beautiful shade of pure red base/clear. Today,
we got the body painted. Net result is a stunning bright that looks
impressive. The engine compartment is awesome! Ditto for the boot! It's a
shame I have to put carpet and all that stuff and cover all this up!!
Sorry for all the gory details, I'm just beside myself. I have a TON of
hours in the sanding and prep work. Needless to say, you get what you pay
for. All the time and expense are certainly worth when you see results like
the ones I experienced today. Man is this fun! Hopefully, it won't be long
before I can get CC77169 back on the road.
Regards,
Joe
