Dear list,
I am out of ideas on how to get my 74TR back on the road without stumbling
back to the garage. Car will run fine in the garage but after awhile on the
road( no consistent amount of time) it starts to run very rough- like I'm on 3
cylinders instead of six. Can barely keep it running with the choke pulled
partially out and I limp home. When I pull the plugs 1-3 are light brown, 4-6
are white. I had the carbs rebuilt professionally over the winter and the car
ran like a scalded dog for about two months with no problems. When I initially
had the problem it was suggested by the person that rebuilt the carbs that I
replace the needle valve-which I did- because it might be defective. No luck.
I have put in a new tank of gas, fuel filter, fuel pump, blown out the fuel
lines, adjusted the carbs following the Buckeye website including the float
and mixture. All the emissions are off the car except the valve cover vent to
the carbs and carbon canister. Vacuum is pulling 16-17. Timing is set to 8
BTDC with the vacuum advance attached. Have a crane 700 ignition.
I am lost and the summer is over half over. I want to get out on the road past
the stop sign at the end of my street. Any help or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave Schuler
