I've done it with Spitfires before, one with overdrive. The longest was a trip from Salt Lake to the VTR convention in Rockford about a decade ago. When you stop to gas up the tow vehicle, fire up the TR and let it idle in neutral for a bit, so that the gearbox input and layshafts will splash the lubricant around the moving parts. When towing, the mainshaft will be turning but not getting lubricated, since the layshaft and input shaft are held in place by the non-turning engine. mjb. |
